Synology setup & troubleshooting

How to connect Reolink cameras to Synology Surveillance Station

Reolink currently documents three connection methods for Surveillance Station: ONVIF, the Reolink camera profile, and a user-defined RTSP stream.

Those methods are not equivalent. The best path depends on whether you need basic video, Reolink-specific AI events, PTZ controls, doorbell events or a special dual-lens stream.

Technical steps and reference tables on this page are attributed to current Reolink or Synology documentation. CameraCompat compatibility verdicts remain separate and come only from reviewed CameraCompat relationship data.

Before you add the camera

  1. Confirm that the exact Reolink product supports the protocol you intend to use.
  2. In Reolink App or Client, open the relevant server ports before starting the Synology setup.
  3. Keep the camera IP address, camera username/password and the relevant port value available.

Three documented connection methods

MethodDefault port in Reolink’s guideWhen it is useful
ONVIF8000Standards-based discovery and integration. Feature exposure still depends on the model and Surveillance Station.
Reolink profileHTTP 80Preferred by Reolink for some AI functions, PTZ models and doorbell visitor alerts.
RTSP554Manual video-stream fallback when you need a defined stream URL rather than a full camera profile.

Method 1 — ONVIF

  1. In Surveillance Station, open IP Camera and choose Add.
  2. Select the camera in LAN, choose the ONVIF path and authenticate with the camera credentials.
  3. Reolink’s guide uses ONVIF port 8000 by default. Match the value actually configured on the camera.
  4. Complete Quick Setup after Synology shows the camera as reachable.

Method 2 — Reolink profile

  1. Choose Add Manually, select Reolink as the brand, choose a suitable camera model/profile and enter the camera IP address.
  2. Reolink’s guide uses HTTP port 80 by default for this method; match the camera’s configured HTTP port.
  3. Authenticate with the camera credentials, then complete Quick Setup.
  4. Reolink specifically recommends its profile for AI cameras, PTZ models and Reolink doorbells when those vendor-specific functions are required.

Method 3 — user-defined RTSP

  1. Choose Add Manually and select User Define as the brand.
  2. Use the camera RTSP stream syntax documented by Reolink and the actual RTSP port configured on the device.
  3. The default RTSP port is 554.
  4. Treat RTSP as a stream path, not proof that smart events, PTZ, two-way audio or other vendor-specific functions will be available.

Special cases: Duo and TrackMix

Reolink Duo

Reolink’s current Synology guide treats the original Duo WiFi/PoE family specially. With the Reolink profile it can be added twice for left/right channels; ONVIF defaults to channel 1 and does not expose the second channel in the same way.

Reolink TrackMix

For TrackMix PoE/WiFi, Reolink documents wide-angle and tracking streams separately. Depending on Surveillance Station version, the tracking view can use Stream 3, a second RTSP camera entry, or two Reolink-profile entries. Some approaches consume two Synology licenses.

If Synology cannot connect

  1. Verify the relevant port is enabled in Reolink App, Client, Web or the NVR interface.
  2. Check that Synology is using the same port value that the camera currently exposes.
  3. If you need AI/PTZ/doorbell behavior, retry using the Reolink profile rather than assuming ONVIF exposes every vendor-specific feature.
  4. For Duo or TrackMix, use the model-specific multi-stream instructions instead of a generic single-lens setup.

Frequently asked questions

Should I add a Reolink camera to Synology with ONVIF or the Reolink profile?

Use the path that exposes the feature you need. Reolink recommends its profile for several vendor-specific AI, PTZ and doorbell functions; ONVIF remains a standards-based option.

What ONVIF port does Reolink use with Synology?

Reolink’s current Synology setup guide uses port 8000 as the default ONVIF port. Always match the port actually configured on your device.

What RTSP port does Reolink use?

The default documented RTSP port is 554, unless you changed it in Reolink server settings.

Why can video work but AI events or PTZ not work?

Streaming and vendor-specific control are separate capabilities. A generic ONVIF or RTSP path does not guarantee every Reolink-specific feature in Surveillance Station.

Does TrackMix use one Synology license?

Reolink documents some TrackMix two-lens setup methods that consume two licenses. The exact setup method determines the license use.
