Reolink two-way audio on Synology: microphone versus talkback

Check camera microphone audio and speaker talkback separately before choosing a Reolink model for Surveillance Station.

Quick answer

A Reolink camera with a microphone and speaker can offer talkback in Reolink App or Client without proving talkback in Synology. Test incoming audio and outgoing speech as two separate requirements on your exact model, Synology camera profile and client.

Native camera capability is not Synology capability

Reolink describes two-way audio through its App and Client for named camera families including TrackMix and Duo. Synology documents its own Two Way Audio settings for cameras that expose the relevant function. Neither manufacturer’s generic page confirms that a particular Reolink model and Synology profile support both directions together.

A useful distinction during testing

Hearing sound from the camera proves only camera-to-client audio in that stream. Speaking via Reolink App proves a native Reolink path. A missing Synology talk button can reflect the selected profile or client, and this page does not diagnose an unsupported model without exact evidence.

Check your setup

  1. Verify the exact camera model has a microphone and speaker in Reolink’s documentation; test recording audio and Talk in the Reolink App separately.
  2. Check the exact model and firmware entry in Synology’s official camera support list for audio input and Two Way Audio. Do not substitute an ONVIF label for this check.
  3. In Synology, test listening to a live stream and speaking through Two Way Audio as separate actions. Check client microphone permission and camera speaker settings when speech fails.
  4. If you require talkback to buy the camera, make a successful Synology test a purchase condition or choose a documented workflow in the Reolink App.

What this does not establish

This article contains no verified model-specific Synology talkback assertion and does not turn the camera’s native two-way-audio feature into a system compatibility verdict.
