NVR identification & upgrade guide

How to check your Reolink RLN8-410 hardware version

RLN8-410 is a product family name used across several hardware generations. Before buying a new camera or downloading NVR firmware, identify the exact Hardware No. shown by your recorder.

The hardware revision affects firmware availability and the supported camera envelope, so “I have an RLN8-410” is not enough information for a reliable compatibility answer.

Technical steps and reference tables on this page are attributed to current Reolink or Synology documentation. CameraCompat compatibility verdicts remain separate and come only from reviewed CameraCompat relationship data.

New UI: Settings > System > Info

On current RLN8-410 interfaces, connect a monitor, open Settings and go to System > Info. Reolink shows the NVR hardware version (Hw No.) and firmware version (Fw Version) on this screen.

Some newer units also show it on Home

Reolink notes that N7MB01 units running firmware v3.6 or later can show NVR system information directly on the Home screen as well.

Old UI: Menu > System > System Information

For older RLN8-410 hardware such as H3MB02/H3MB16, open the NVR menu and go to System > System Information. Reolink shows Model, Hw No. and Fw Version there.

Checking a camera connected to the NVR

On the new UI, choose Settings > Camera and use More Info for the selected channel. On the old UI, use Menu > IP channel > Detail. This identifies the camera’s own model, hardware and firmware separately from the recorder.

Why the hardware number changes the buying decision

Reolink’s current NVR hardware guide assigns different resolution ceilings and Duo/TrackMix/battery-camera support to older and newer RLN8-410 generations. CameraCompat therefore treats the hardware revision as part of the compatibility scope whenever the evidence does.

Hardware revisionPractical compatibility context
H3MB02Older generation; Reolink’s current guide limits wired cameras to 5MP and excludes Duo/TrackMix.
H3MB16 / RLN8-410-EOlder generation; Reolink’s current guide allows up to 8MP wired cameras but excludes Duo/TrackMix.
H3MB18 / N2MB02 / N3MB01Intermediate generations; Reolink documents wider smart-detection and battery-camera support, but some newer multi-lens/high-resolution models retain restrictions.
N7MB01 / NVR_NNT3NA78PCurrent N7MB01/NVR_NNT3NA78P generations; Reolink’s current guide lists up to 16MP wired-camera support plus newer camera families.

Do not flash firmware for a different RLN8-410 hardware revision

The Reolink support page lists different firmware files for H3MB02, H3MB16, N3MB01, N7MB01 and NVR_NNT3NA78P. Match the Hardware No. exactly before downloading.

Buying a used or refurbished RLN8-410

  1. Ask the seller for a photo of the System Info screen showing Hw No. and Fw Version.
  2. Do not value every RLN8-410 listing as though it were the current hardware generation.
  3. Check the exact cameras you plan to add, especially Duo, TrackMix, battery and high-resolution models.
  4. Confirm the recorder channel limits separately from its eight physical PoE ports.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find the RLN8-410 hardware version?

On the new UI, use Settings > System > Info. On old H3MB02/H3MB16 interfaces, use Menu > System > System Information.

Is N7MB01 the same as H3MB02?

No. They are different RLN8-410 hardware generations with different official firmware and compatibility limits.

Can I use N7MB01 firmware on an H3MB16 NVR?

Do not do that. Reolink publishes separate firmware entries by Hardware No.; choose the file for the exact revision.

Why does my RLN8-410 support fewer cameras or features than another RLN8-410?

The shared product name spans multiple hardware revisions. Reolink’s current support guide assigns different limits to those generations.

Does updating firmware turn an old RLN8-410 into the newest hardware?

No. Firmware can add or fix software behavior, but it does not change the physical hardware revision or erase documented hardware-generation limits.
