How many cameras can an RLN8-410 actually handle?

Compare eight physical PoE ports with revision-specific channel totals and camera limits, including dual-lens and high-power exceptions.

Quick answer

Do not read the eight PoE sockets as a universal channel count. Reolink lists different channel totals by RLN8-410 hardware version, and some multi-lens or high-power cameras consume extra channels or power. Check your revision, firmware, camera types and connection layout together.

Revision-dependent numbers in Reolink’s table

Reolink’s table lists H3MB02 and N2MB02 with eight PoE ports, eight channels and a maximum of eight cameras. For N3MB01, it lists eight ports, twelve channels and a maximum of eight cameras; N7MB01 has eight ports and twelve channels with separate battery-WiFi allocations. For H3MB18, the same table shows eight physical PoE ports, eight channels and a maximum of eight cameras, but an example farther down calls H3MB18 a twelve-channel recorder. These channel statements conflict. Check the channel count displayed by your exact recorder with its hardware revision and firmware, and ask Reolink if needed before an equipment or capacity decision.

Reolink: NVR camera and channel limits

A concrete eight-port trap

On N3MB01 the official table shows 12 channels, but still caps the ordinary camera count at eight. Buying a twelve-port switch does not turn that recorder into a twelve-wired-camera NVR. Conversely, a first-generation Duo may occupy more than one channel even when only one physical camera is present.

Check your setup

  1. Read the RLN8-410 hardware version on your own recorder; do not install firmware intended for a differently named revision.
  2. Compare physical ports and maximum camera count in Reolink’s table. For H3MB18, verify the channel count on the recorder rather than choosing between the conflicting numbers in the article. Treat battery-WiFi allocations separately from wired cameras.
  3. Count special camera channels and power: Reolink’s original Duo PoE/WiFi can use two channels, whereas later Duo generations are not covered by that statement.
  4. For high-power cameras, consult the model-specific direct-PoE limit and firmware conditions; use external power where appropriate without assuming extra supported cameras.

What this does not establish

Reolink’s direct-power table has additional firmware and cable assumptions. Capacity is not the same as a reviewed compatibility verdict for any particular camera.
